As the park is huge, you could only visit it by car. So there we were, wandering in this vast green desert. Whenever you looked around you through the car window, the landscape was different, and that was the most breathtaking thing I noticed. At the beginning the landscape was all green, then carpets of flowers were appearing all around us, filling this linear green landscape. Indeed it was the beginning of September, so it was the beginning of the spring in South Africa. Off in the distance, a piece of the sea, with sand dunes rimming it.
If you want to experience the raw, authentic, outdoors side of the Western Cape, the vast West Coast National Park is where you will find it.
We walked on the beach and took beautiful photos, before coming back to the bakkie and having a little snack before returning home. I really enjoyed this day, It was a very exotic experience for me – furthermore, spending time with my host family was great. But it is just the beginning, I have still lots of places to see in South Africa!
