The students had a bit of a history lesson on the origins of Halloween and the traditions surrounding this festival. Not many people know that it originated as Celtic festival of Samhain, the day that marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter a time also associated with human death.
ELH is a college situated in town near Brighton ,a well-known city on the south coast of the United Kingdom. I went there for the first time 4 years ago with an Italian Agency and, to tell the truth, I was a little worried because it was my first time away from home without my parents. However, once there I fell in love with the place and the weather and happily stayed for 2 weeks (which was back in 2014).I really wanted to stay and extra week but unfortunatly returned home after two.
Once upon a time if you mentioned South Africa, everyone in Europe shuddered and shook their head and were slightly cautious. To most Europeans, going to South Africa was akin to a walk on the wild side! But somewhere along the line, South Africa, and more particularly Cape Town, “ GOT COOL!” As a Language
Recently I was asked to teach an octogenarian English. Don’t be surprised, he is actually 86 and still working. I know, life for us as we get older is looking promising! Mr Nozair hails from Cairo and has an extremely buoyant business exporting Lemons and Grapefruits to all parts of the World and this, dear Readers, is why he wants to improve his English
As English homestay accommodation manager is that I get to also meet and greet some of the many European coaches that arrive. No day is ever the same and never a dull moment. On arrival you get to see which international student is the princess of the group and which one is going to be a challenge! With each English school group there’s always the young loved up couple to spot..
At English Language Homestays we want to make learning English fun and relevant for young people.
Today was an interesting day in my class, the subject was Festivals and my 13 and 14 year old Czech students described in great detail some great festivals that took place in their area
It was a perfect day to visit the park: a sunny Sunday, without any clouds. After an hour and a half of driving in the “bakkie” (that is what South Africans would call a sports utility vehicle!) with my whole host family, we finally arrived. It was a very exotic place for me – no urban environment, only mountains, vegetation and sea on the horizon.
